NMC mandates 75 per cent attendance for faculty in medical colleges

The National Medical Commission has mandated 75 per cent attendance of teachers and students in all medical colleges. The commission has taken this decision after conducting an online meeting of all the principals of medical colleges on Tuesday.  Despite the compulsory attendance, many students and teachers were found not adhering to the laid rules.

The NMC has now directed that the attendance of teachers in colleges should be recorded through biometric machines, and videos of undergraduate and PG examinations should be sent to the commission. According to a media report, the commission said, "The inspection of the college will henceforth be done regularly. The principal will verify all the documents and upload them on the NMC portal. A new portal is being created soon for this purpose. Also, the commission directed that an electronic log book should be made for the students doing PG.”

The attendance log book will have all the details of the students in which PG students will write the details of their daily work and get it verified by their mentor. The commission has also made changes in the marking system of students. Earlier passing marks were 50 for theory and practical both. Now, if a student gets even 40 marks in one subject and 60 marks in another subject, he will be considered to have passed. Also, the commission has warned that if the education system in any college is not good, the seats will decrease.
